The Social Science Professionals (YKA) is a professional interest organisation for people working in public services or private sector and who have a university degree or are studying for one.
The Union is part of central organisation Akava.
The Union was founded in 1947. On 1 March 2012 the name was changed from Suomen Valtiotieteilijöiden Liitto SVAL ry to Yhteiskunta-alan korkeakoulutetut ry (YKA for short).
The Union has just over 12,000 members.
The Union represents its members’ professional, economic and social interests in the labour market. The Union also aims to strengthen the esteem for its members’ professions and its members’ professional identity.
